September 2012 Newsletter

Hello again!

(There was no August Newsletter …..too busy getting ready to open!!)

Although at times it felt like it was never going to happen – it has happened! Décor-Arte Interiors and the DAI Café are now a reality. (I get confirmation of this every morning when I look into the mirror at the

‘designer bags’ under my eyes!)

The first week of trade (and the few days since) have been all about learning – and I must say, I didn’t know I didn’t know so much!!! I thought milk was either full fat, lite or skim and soy. Not so my friends –

there are so many ‘grades’ of milk and the different breeds of cows it comes from. I’ve been making tea and coffee for a lifetime – and now I know how to do it correctly after being shown by experts.

The very best thing about this adventure is that I now have the most delicious cup of coffee in the St George area as soon as I get to work – not to mention the cinnamon scrolls/banana bread/raisin toast on offer.

Lucky for me there are LOTS of stairs to negotiate each day…… I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words of thanks at this time. For those who were at the opening – you will have heard most of

this before, but it’s worth repeating.

When we began this journey it had a dreamlike quality, something far off but worth working towards. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of my wonderful husband John. Despite many ‘issues’ with approvals etc his was the quiet voice encouraging me to look at the other side, to ‘keep calm and carry on’. When he had a shock quintuple by-pass earlier this year we put the dream on hold for a little while longer, but in his usual calm way, things got back on track in a remarkably short time. Words cannot thank him enough for all the hard work he has put into this place – something I don’t think he saw himself doing in his retirement! Thank you from the bottom of my heart my darling man – I can’t imagine my life without you.

I would also like to thank my amazing children and their fabulous families, mother, brother and Chrissy for their help in getting us to open day. Your support and practical help was invaluable. Thank you for

being there – your love and encouragement has kept me going through some tough times.

Thank you also to all those people who helped us along the journey – Russell the architect, Warren the commercial kitchen expert, Reg – the go to guy for everything, Kenny my website guru, Pino – the ever

reliable Pino who is just a joy to have around, and the many workers who brought us to the finished product. There isn’t enough room to list everyone by name but know you are appreciated just the same.

Thank you one and all.

Now – let me introduce you to Mark …he will be making your fabulous coffee when you visit – and he definitely knows his craft!

You will find him very friendly – come and say hello. (Then you can see his whole face!)

For our friends a little further afield – here are a few pictures of the café and the display areas downstairs. Most have been posted on Facebook so if you’ve seen them before – sorry.
